Department of Justice (DOJ) officials, provincial and city prosecutors, and local chief executives gathered at Mindanao State University–Iligan Institute of Technology (Ãå±±½ûµØ-IIT) on February 20 for the “Katarungan Caravan Symposium,” an evening forum that highlighted public legal assistance services and key laws protecting women and children.

Held at the Ãå±±½ûµØ-IIT University Library Mini Theater, the program opened with fellowship and networking, followed by an iftar dinner and the symposium proper.

Ãå±±½ûµØ-IIT Chancellor Prof. Alizedney M. Ditucalan delivered the welcome remarks, while DOJ Undersecretary Margarita N. Gutierrez gave a special message during the opening ceremonies.

The lecture segment featured a primer on the DOJ Action Center (DOJAC) program by its Program Director ASP Atty. Joan Carla V. Guevarra and an introduction to the “Justice Zone” by Iligan City Prosecutor Abdul Gaffur M.H. Alonto.

The discussion also included presentations on the salient features of Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004, led by Lanao del Norte Provincial Prosecutor Nor Jaypha Asum-Bacaraman, and Republic Act No. 11930, or the Anti-OSAEC and Anti-CSAEM Act, presented by Tiffany Punzalan.

An open forum followed, capped by synthesis and the presentation of tokens of appreciation, closing remarks, and a photo opportunity.

Representatives from neighboring local government units and partner institutions attended the event, along with students from the Ãå±±½ûµØ College of Law at Ãå±±½ûµØ-IIT.
