Project RISE concludes Grade 1 post-assessment across 10 partner schools

by The RISE Team  | Mar 26 2026

Project RISE has successfully completed its post-assessment for Grade 1 learners across 10 partner schools, conducted from March 10 to March 16, 2026. The activity marked a significant milestone, serving as the culmination of the year-long classroom implementation carried out by dedicated RISE-trained Grade 1 teachers.

The post-assessment followed an earlier pre-assessment conducted prior to the program’s implementation last year, which established baseline data on learners’ early literacy skills. The recent assessment aimed to measure learners’ progress and evaluate the impact of the classroom interventions implemented throughout the school year.

The post-assessment was carried out in the following partner schools: Abuno Elementary School; Angelico Medina Memorial Elementary School; Bagong Silang Elementary School; Cabili Village Elementary School; Del Carmen Integrated School; Iligan City North Central School; Luinab Elementary School; Victor G. Guevara Memorial Elementary School; Tambacan Elementary School; and Villaverde Elementary School.

During the assessment, learners were evaluated on key early literacy competencies, including book and print knowledge, letter name recognition, letter sounds, phoneme segmentation, and other foundational skills essential for beginning readers.

A key innovation in this post-assessment was the transition from paper-based recording to a mobile data collection system. While the initial baseline assessment relied on manual forms, assessors this year utilized smartphones and tablets to input data directly into a specialized software platform. This digital shift enabled real-time data synchronization, significantly improving accuracy and streamlining the monitoring process, while also reducing the need for paper-based recording and promoting more sustainable practices.

The activity also highlighted strong collaboration within the College of Education. Pre-service teachers, who had been trained in their classes prior to the activity, actively assisted the RISE Team members during the assessment process. This preparation enabled them to effectively support the assessment while gaining valuable hands-on field experience.

Project RISE extends its sincere gratitude to all partner schools, teachers, and volunteers for their continued support and commitment to strengthening early literacy among young learners. The success of the post-assessment underscores a shared commitment to building strong reading foundations in the early grades.
