Lecture Title: URBAN MORPHOLOGY AND CLIMATE-RESPONSIVE DESIGN: STRATEGIES FOR THERMAL COMFORT, ENERGY EFFICIENCY, AND SUSTAINABLE CITIES

Urban mitigation strategies include urban form optimization, canyon H/W control, street orientation, shading, vegetation, surface albedo, green walls/roofs, façade and roof treatments, and retrofitting. Studying them helps engineers reduce heat stress, improve indoor temperature, and lower cooling energy by controlling solar gain, airflow, and heat storage through urban morphology.

Prof. Dr. Amr Abdallah is a Professor in the Department of Architectural Engineering, College of Engineering, Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University. Dr. Abdallah was awarded his PhD in Feb. 2014 from the Faculty of Engineering, Assiut University, Egypt, join with Tohoku University, Japan. Along with his PhD studies, he was a researcher in the Department of Architecture and Building Science, Laboratory of Building Environmental Engineering, Tohoku University, Japan. In 2012, he was awarded Professional Leader for Sustainable Environment (PLSE) by the Graduate School of Environmental Studies, Tohoku University, Japan. He participates in teaching in Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport (Aswan branches) different module and courses as apart time.
